Behind the Scenes – Francesca’s Work Experience Week
Francesca joined the Accuro office team for a week in July 2025, here is how the week unfolded…
I have chosen to do my work experience at Accuro because they have greatly supported me and my family in a multitude of ways. Their fantastic services such as the Holiday Scheme and Saturday Play Club, which both my siblings attend, have had a significant impact on their social life and mental health – all thanks to the dedication of staff who provide fun opportunities for them. My parents are also given time to do things that they would not otherwise be able to do – with the peace of mind that my siblings are having an enjoyable time, and I am given the flexibility of doing what I would like, such as seeing friends. The services that they provide are like no other – which I can see displayed throughout my work experience and my siblings’ experiences.
On day one, I had an induction with Sim who explained to me what I will be doing with regards to my work experience, policies, what Accuro does, and if I had any questions which I found highly informative and welcoming. In the Afternoon, Nicola informed me about her role as finance manager. She taught me about balance sheets and the types of organisational structures. Through this, I had an insight into the importance of her role managing finances to ensure charities like Accuro can continue to run and provide their services.
On day two, I took a trip to collect post and made labels for the next financial year, which I stuck onto the folders. I learnt about the importance of administration to make sure a charity like Accuro runs smoothly.
On day three in the morning I took a walk with Sue, the fundraising manager, taking footage of Saffron Walden to use for social media – I leant of the importance of making sure Accuro is known in the community to maximise knowledge of their outstanding services so people can get the most out of their services and gain sponsorships crucial for Accuro. I understand more about how necessary this support is through my talk on Monday with Alison.
On day four, I made communication resources with Rhiannon to use in projects. I know how important it is that people with a disability have access to sufficient communication aids so that they can communicate effectively, so I am glad to help create some.
On my last day, day five, I finished a website audit providing a fresh perspective of ways to improve the website to hopefully improve its experience for users. Then, in the Afternoon I wrote up a blog of my week of work experience here at Accuro.
In conclusion, my work experience at Accuro has been one of the most informative and rewarding experiences I have had. Thanks to the dedication of staff who have guided and supported me, I have gained a much deeper understanding of how much dedication goes on behind the scenes to ensure that families like mine receive the vital support that they need. From administration and fundraising to creating accessible resources and raising awareness in the community, every role plays a part in making Accuro the special place that it is. Upon reflection, I leave with a renewed appreciation for the work they do – and the people that make it happen.
