The Accuro Games 2024

Paralympian Richard Chiassaro and The High Sheriff of Essex attend the Accuro Games 2024 to give out medals to participants.

The Accuro Games took place on Sunday 14th July at Howe Green House School in Great Hallingbury – the disability charity’s 40th anniversary celebration event. The free event was open to the charity’s members and their families as well as the public.

Local Paralympian Richard Chiassaro gave a speech at the beginning of the event, along with Matthew Punshon, Chair of Trustees for Accuro, and Operations and Development Manager Amy Connelly. The busy schedule of games and activities included multi sports and family games from the Junior Adventures Group, seated and outdoor cricket from Clock Cricket, and Zumba from Melle John. There were also fun fair games, face painting, a princess storytelling session, and a live band to finish the day.

Paralympian Richard got involved in the sports and activities during the afternoon and stayed to present medals to all the participants and some special ‘Accuro Superstar’ awards. The High Sheriff of Essex, David Hurst, also presented medals and a Personal Award to Alison McKeown, Senior Operations Manager at Accuro, for her 25 years of service to Accuro, the local community, and the county of Essex.

Other special guests included the Mayor and Mayoress of Saffron Walden and members of the Saffron Walden Rotary Club.

Operations and Development Manager at Accuro, Amy Connelly, has said…

“Accuro’s first ever Accuro Games family fun day was a huge success for several reasons, from seeing our members engage in new and different sporting activities, to one of our members being offered to have a new wheelchair custom made for him and funded. I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped on the day and leading up to the event, from staff and volunteers, to sponsors and vendors on the day. The event would not have been possible without everyone’s input.

It was lovely seeing so many people enjoying themselves and getting involved with all the different activities we had to offer.

There were lots of familiar faces, as well as new ones and it was great to get to know them and hear the impact the day had on them. I would like to give an extra special thank you to Richard Chiassaro for helping me to host the event and hand out the medals and awards.

Richard took his time to engage with our families and attendees and is such a key role model and inspiration to many. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as we did.”

Accuro would like to thank all those who attended, staff, volunteers, suppliers, vendors and special guests. Accuro would also like to thank MAG Stansted Airport for sponsoring the event and Howe Green House School for supplying the venue free of charge.
