STRIDE is coming to Uttlesford!

STRIDE is a six-month life skills programme for young adults with a disability, aged 19-25. The sessions cover healthy living, personal care, household tasks, how to keep safe, social and communication skills and much more, enabling members to develop essential skills to live a happy, healthy and more independent life. STRIDE has been running successfully in Harlow since September 2021 and we’re thrilled to be launching the second programme in Uttlesford this April.

STRIDE sessions so far have included; social interaction and communication, a healthy movement workshop, domestic and household skills, employment skills including interview practice, healthy cooking and safe food preparation, digital skills and more. Members have taken trips including a visit to a café to practice money management and social interaction and the laundrette during a domestic skills session.

One member recently said, “Thank You for accepting me, I love coming here”, while another told us “I came here to learn life skills, but now I come because I’ve made friends.”

Coordinator of Adult Services, Kerry says, “We’re so proud of all our STRIDE members have achieved. We’re excited to be launching STRIDE in Uttlesford following this success. We believe this is a fantastic opportunity both for some of our existing  members and for new members to develop essential and valuable life skills. Those interested in STRIDE may also be interested in our ‘Young Adult Friendship Scheme’, a social group for adults aged 19-25 with a disability. Many members attend both services, so some real friendships are forming which is just lovely to see.”

If you are interested in attending STRIDE sessions, or if you would like to enquire on someone else’s behalf, please register your interest before 19th March 2022.
