Our daughter is 27 years old and has Downs Syndrome. She loves coming to Accuro’s Adult Friendship Schemeas often as she can. Itis where she has met and made most of her friends and it’s been lovely that they have been able to grow up together moving from Accuro’s children’s clubs to those put on for adults.
Just because she is an adult now doesn’t mean she doesn’t need help anymore. She does. In fact, she probably needs it more now as she has less opportunities to go out and meet and make friends, than when she was at school.
The events that Accuro run allow my daughter to have an active social life, just like her non-disabled peers do. Friendships are important to everyone and just because she has Downs Syndrome, it doesn’t mean she is different – Accuro understand that and she is always so happy when it’s time to go to Accuro.”
We also really benefit from the respite when she is at Accuro. It might only be for a couple of hours, but it means that we can enjoy some ‘time off’. We can feel free to go out and enjoy some ‘me time’ knowing that she is safe and having fun with her friends.
In her own words – “I really like karaoke, seeing tribute acts where I can sing and dance, pantomime and ten pin bowling. I have a good time with my friends, volunteers and helpers from the club.”
