In May 2018 my 15-year-old son went to try Accuro’s Youth Group in Loughton for the first time. He was nervous and wouldn’t let me leave him there alone. However, the staff, volunteers and other service users were great with him and by the end of the session he started to interact and engage with other people at the club. When we got home,he kept asking me when he could go back and wasn’t happy that he had to wait a whole week until the next session!
He has also attended days out over the school holidays and has been to the seaside, to the cinema, has learnt to cook and much more. He now looks forward to school holidays as he’s going out with his friends at Accuro and knows he is going to have fun.
My son has a condition, congenital right-side hemiplegia, which limits his use of the right side of his body due to paralysis. He also has epilepsy, learning disabilities and behavioural problems. Accuro has helped improve his social and communication skills and helped him become more spatially aware. His self–confidence and self-esteem have increased so much and he has learnt new skills, such as cooking, which really help him gain some independence as he is growing up so fast.
