School Holiday Project
Accuro operates a Holiday Support Project during each school holiday and in particular during the long summer holiday. This service caters for children with a disability aged from 8 to 19 and provides opportunities to participate in a very wide range of leisure and social activities in both groups and on an individual basis.
The project provides children and young people with great opportunities to experience a range of activities and outings, whilst affording their families some valuable respite care.
Group activities – these may be activity days based on a theme for example music days, drama, sport or small group outings. Recent outings have included a canal boat trip, cinema
trips, horse riding, bowling, swimming and museums.
Individual activities – where a child/young person is supported by a Support Worker on a
1:1 basis to participate in activities of their choosing for instance going to the cinema, visiting Stansted Airport or going bowling.
Some of the things you said about this scheme:
“Being a single parent of 2 children with disabilities doesn’t leave me much respite time and also restricts what we are able to do as a family. The scheme enables the children to have positive 1:1 care and to have special days out. This in turn enables me to have the respite I would otherwise not have which can only be a positive thing for all of us.”
“I’m very happy with everything. I had a brilliant service with all staff. They are lovely caring people and do a brilliant job to make the kids very happy. I can’t thank you enough because my kids loved it and had brilliant times with your staff. Thank you so much for that. They take time out of their own busy lives which is so loving and caring. They really have got wonderful hearts your staff. Thank you.”
