Accuro are now able to offer the following services to Parents and Carers of children who have learning and/or physical disabilities including children with social communication problems.
- Home Visits
- Parenting Programmes
- Support Groups
Home VisitsMany parents appreciate the opportunity to talk to someone on a one to one basis and be linked to services within our charity. They will also be signposted to other local services which may be of help.
Drop-InsWe also provide 2 Drop-In sessions per term in Harlow and 1 per term in Loughton and Stansted where anyone is welcome to come along for a coffee and chat. It often helps to meet other parents who are in similar situations and share information.
Parenting ProgrammesAccuro are able to support Parents and Carers by running Positive Parenting Courses across West Essex. These include 'Time out for Special Needs' and 'Time out from ASD'. Standard parenting advice does not always help parents when they are dealing with a child with a disability. We are able to cover numerous issues including self esteem, behaviour, emotional issues, labeling of children, sensory issues and social stories. 'Time Out from ASD' is suitable for parents of children with social communication problems.
Parents can share experiences so they do not feel alone.
Support GroupsMany parents benefit from meeting up on a regular basis. In Harlow we link families to the PACT (Parents of Autistic Children Together) support group, in Loughton we work alongside parents to run a Meeting Point group inviting guest speakers to some of our monthly meetings.
In Uttlesford the parents attending the courses have continued to meet up socially but we also link them to Accuro's parents' group that meets up on a regular basis of an evening at parents homes. There is also the Parent4parent group that our charity links with that meets up in Dunmow for parents of children with social communication problems.
