About Us

Accuro was created by the amalgamation of three local charities each of which was established by separate groups of parents of children with a disability who were dissatisfied with the services available to them. The three groups concerned were:>

• Harlow Shared Care (HSC) established in 1984
• Special Needs of Children and Parents (SnoCaP) established in the Epping Forest area in 1994, which merged with HSC in 2004.
• Respite Care in Uttlesford (ResCU)* established in the Uttlesford area in 1984 and part of which amalgamated with HSC & SnoCaP in July 2005 to form Accuro.

(* Part of ResCU remained independent and the organisation is actively working towards the establishment of a respite care centre in the Uttlesford area)

The primary concern of all 3 groups related to the absence of available, flexible respite care and consequently the first service developed by each project was a Shared Care Service. Subsequently the organisations have separately & in partnership developed the range of services that are currently offered by Accuro. Each service having been developed in response to identified local needs and following consultation with potential consumers of the service.

Accuro is both a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee that exists to provide a range of services primarily in West Essex, which includes Harlow, Epping and the Uttlesford District.
